Pregnant During the Holidays?
Are you crying during every Christmas commercial? Wishing your eggnog was spiked? Although the holidays will be different while you are pregnant, you can still make it the most wonderful time of the year!
While everyone around you is busy with the hustle and bustle of the holidays, take this time to relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Whether this is your first pregnancy or not, here are 5 ways your can enjoy the holiday season with your little holiday gift still bundled up in your tummy.
- Take some time to enjoy your family before baby arrives. If this is your first child, enjoy the season with your partner as just a couple. Snuggle up on the couch with some hot cocoa, take a walk looking at all the Christmas lights, or go see the latest movie. Enjoy the holidays for just the two of you. If this isn’t your first baby, your family dynamic is still about to change. Make this season count with special experiences and memories!
- When you can’t overindulge on alcohol and holiday eats gives you indigestion, you need to get a little creative! Sparkling or mulled cider and some mocktails can help you enjoy your holiday parties without feeling left out. Spread out your treats and eat little bits more often. Two desserts? Why Not? Just give your squished stomach time to digest. Just make sure to drink a lot of water to keep you and baby happy and healthy!
- Take the extra holiday time off for some rest and relaxation. Turn off your alarm and sleep in or take that extra long nap in the afternoon. Even when family is around, just let them know that the baby needs some rest. It is even ok to pamper yourself. Take the time to read a book, relax in the tub, get a prenatal massage, or just enjoy some time to yourself.
- Accept help when offered. When you are pregnant, people tend to think you have lost the ability to do pretty much anything. On most days, this can get annoying, but use this time to take the opportunity to get a break. Get help with the chores, wrapping the gifts, and the cooking. You might be someone who finds it difficult to ask or accept help, but get used to it! You will gladly need it when baby is born.
- Make your wish list about you. Not mom you, but you you. Once baby is born, the holidays will be about the little one(s). Ask for a gift card for a pedicure or massage, some new hair or cosmetics that you have been wanting, maybe even a new pair of shoes.
Whether you love being pregnant or are counting down the days till baby arrives, take the time to enjoy the holidays with your family and friends. If they are adamant about getting you a “mom” gift, ask for a gift card for your labor or postpartum doula! Let them help bring your baby into this world by giving the gift of the emotional and physical support of a doula!
